The court is able to construct a narrative of guilt by emphasizing the weapon which not only ignores the mental pressures Helen experiences but also shows how the legal system treats the crime as a sequence of one sided actions without giving thought to the depth of what really occurred.
The little bowl is important because it helps prosecutors reconstruct the events of the murder and shows how even an ordinary object can become something more. Helen's life as a housewife is weaponized against her in this case as the bowl is used to build a chain of events that reinforces the courts desire to fit Helen's actions into the narrative they wish to create. The domestic sphere Helen was forced into that she desperately fought to escape ends up being the same setting for her crime which the bowl becomes essential towards pinning the crime upon her.
Dick Roe's statement serves as a testimony to Helen's planning of the murder in that it establishes both motive and her desire to escape her marriage. Being written, the testimony seems both reliable and realistic to the court while ensuring attention is shifted away from Helen's emotional distress by framing the crime as a conspiracy between the two lovers.
The nightgown is used to suggest Helen was involved in the crime and attempted to clean up after the crime had occurred. Even though the evidence is very circumstantial, the courtroom sees it as suspicious behavior which shows how the trial emphasizes every aspect of Helen's private and public life.
The dishwashing glove is shown as evidence that Helen tried to avoid leaving fingerprints while committing the murder. The glove is similar to the bowl and nightgown in how it's a household item that becomes a symbol of criminal planning and turns the domestic sphere Helen is so against into a weapon towards her destruction. The prosecution highlights the glove as another reason towards why the crime was pre planned showing how the role of Helen as a housewife is essential towards the ways she implemented the murder.
